 Pictured at 16 months old
Darkstone Ebony Rose AKA
D.O.B. 9.20.05

2 Years

We are very pleased with the outcome of our first breeding between Caesar and Samba. While disappointed to only have one puppy from the pairing, we feel Ebony has developed into a very strong example of the breed.
At 18 months, Ebony is obviously on the large end of the size spectrum within the breed, drawing on her father Caesar's genetics to produce an extremely muscular, large-boned, powerful, and importantly, structurally balanced female Corso. Ebony demonstrates a very strong rear, with significant angulation, curve of stifle, and thickness of quad, drawing on the strong genetic rears of both parents. She demonstrates an outstanding top line, with no croup drop, and a lovely tail set. The impressive combination of rear end and top line demonstrated by Ebony is a rarity in female Corsi. Ebony has a very deep chest, which is still developing and will continue to do so until she is at least 2.5-3 years old. The front shoulder set is excellent, as is the curve, length, and thickness of the neck muscles.
Ebony's head style is well within standard, demonstrating a near exact 1/3 muzzle to 2/3 skull ratio, with converging planes of skull and muzzle. Ebony demonstrates a "large" head for a female, and we expect it will continue to grow and mature until three years of age. Ebony presents a strong scissor bite with full dentition. The eyes are dark, and the mouth is well pigmented. Along the spectrum of head "styles" prevalent in the Cane Corso breed, Ebony could be described as a more traditional, old world, molosser style Corso.
Ebony's combination of power, size and athleticism is unique. She is absolutely the most powerful female dog we have ever seen, yet she moves with surprising grace. Ebony is a correct single line trotter, with powerful, fully extended drive from the rear, and excellent front extension. The pasterns are strong, and the feet tight. Ebony has attended two levels of agility training class, and demonstrates that a large dog can still be highly agile.
Ebony's temperament is one of her strongest suits. She demonstrates what, to us at Darkstone, is nearly the ideal temperament for a female Corsi. She is very friendly and outgoing with any person she is introduced to, and can be taken anywhere as an "ambassador to the breed." However, she is also extremely "hard," in that she is fearless, and her pain tolerance levels are as high as we have ever seen in a dog. She would make an exceptional "working" dog in any environment, as she also possesses a strong working/prey drive. She is the definitive "alpha" female, ruling over all in her domain, yet tolerant of any dog, including females, who do not challenge her authority.
Ebony is still in her "developmental" stage, and will continue to develop for at least another 12-18 months. We have taken preliminary Xrays of her hips at 18 months, and are very pleased with what we saw. We will undertake a full OFA at two years. Ebony is a picture of Corsi health and vigor.

In August 2006 we entered a picture of Ebony, at a Herding Instinct Test, in
a contest with Dogsport magazine for an article they were doing on Herding.
We WON the contest! Yipee for Ebony! Unfortunately, she did not get her HIC
that day as she was too young but it was great practice.
